The Jackson County Rose Parade, sponsored by Art Moehn Chevrolet, announces Oscar Curtis as the 2014 Jackson County Rose Parade Grand Marshal. The theme of the June 1st Parade is “Wish Upon A Star.”

Oscar Curtis was born on March 5th 2012 with Biliary Atresia and a congenital heart defect. At the young age of 7 weeks old he had his first major operation. At 9 months he had an open heart surgery. And on January 28th he received a liver transplant along with 2 other major surgeries in the same day. Oscar and his family have brought a whole community together.

Just recently at Michigan Center there were hundreds of people from near and far to support “superman” as we like to call him. Dozens of local businesses were on display to help fundraise for this amazing little boy! Thousands of people follow this families Facebook page Hail to Oscar! Celebrities such as Devon Gardner, several Detroit Red Wings, and Mitch McGary have come to meet this little guy! Oscar is currently home and in the words of his surgeon “kicking liver diseases butt!”

“I can’t think of a stronger little boy or family that would be better to represent a sense of community pride at the front of our Rose Parade! He constantly teaches us all how to be strong, come together, and simply enjoy life!” Said Corissa Barton, who nominated Oscar.

“It’s always a difficult decision when choosing a Grand Marshal for the Rose Parade as there are many who deserve the honor,” stated Angela Machnik, Rose Parade committee member. “We thank the community for their nominations. We are pleased to announce Oscar Curtis as the 2014 Jackson County Rose Parade Grand Marshal.”
